History of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

Due to the needs of the government, both civilians and the military on the necessity of preventing
and suppressing animal epidemics. As a result, the Management of Veterinary Medicine  Education
was developed in the following order.

            Civilian
1904 - 1906        Chao Phraya Wet Wongwiwat Minister of Agriculture at that time arranged for
Mr. HS  Leonard,  a  European  veterinarian  to  train   veterinary   subjects  to
the Department of Silk Technician staff.
(later to be the Department of Cultivation Ministry of Agriculture)

1914                     Her Royal Highness Princess Krom Luang   Ratchaburi  Direkrit,  Minister   of

Agriculture at that time arranged for Mr. Yee Jay Hawi, a British veterinarian
to conduct serious veterinary training again. Changed to  Mr.  HSL  Woods  in
1922 and hired Dr. Robert Percy Jons as Director of Training.

            Military
1909                   The Cavalry Regiment had a traditional steer in charge of the horses.

1910                   Major   General   Mom    Chao   Thongteekhayu,   his  rank  was  a  cavalry  lieutenant  at
that time,  initiate  to   use  modern   veterinarians   as  in   other    countries   therefore
proposed    to    General    Krom   Luang    Phitsanulok    Prachanat     Cavalry  Regiment
proceed for  approval  for  the  Royal  Thai  Army  to  est  ablish  a  school,  Mr.  Satarak,
called the Royal  Thai  Army  Medical  School  in  1911,  with  Major  General  Mom  Chao
Thongteekhayu serving as the director  of  this  school  of  astrology  and  having  Major
Henvilheim  Spater  (Thai  Army  rank), a   veterinarian   from   Germany   serves   as   a
                                       teaching assistant.
The concept of Veterinary Medicine Education  at  the  degree level.0
The evidence was found in the meeting documents of the Board  of  Directors.  Initiative
of Chulalongkorn University which His Majesty King Prajadhipok has  appointed.  In  the
beginning they let the Department of Agricultural Inspection work  with  Chulalongkorn
University to provide agricultural and veterinary teaching. It is a certificate program for
                                       agriculture and veterinary students.

From the initiative to provide veterinary medicine teaching at the  university  level  that  is
on par with foreign countries. A Degree in Veterinary Medicine was therefore born through
the collaboration between Major  General  Mom  Chao  Thongthikhayu  Thongyai,  Brigadier
General Luang Sanan Raksad, Colonel Luang Sanit Raksad, and  Lieutenant  Colonel  Luang
Chai Asavarak. Initially, the Department of Veterinary Medicine  was established according
to the Chulalongkorn University Act, B.E. 2477, enacted on the 16th day of April, 1935
